SC PLT Environmental Education Centers
Inspired by other states’ successes with their PLT Environmental Education (EE) Center programs, South Carolina PLT decided to develop and implement its own program in 2018. A SC PLT EE Center is a special designation for nature centers, museums, 4H centers, school district sponsored centers, state parks, etc., that use Project Learning Tree. These centers agree to host at least one PLT Educator Workshop per year and also check in/out its “Tree Trunk” to local PLT Educators and Facilitators. The Tree Trunk has materials to lead ten different PLT activities from the Pre K – 8 Activity Guide and is FREE to loan!
Through certification as a PLT EE Center, the host site is advised to sustain Project Learning Tree outside of the formal school setting and foster area partnerships. SC PLT EE Centers have been a great success and have increased our program’s awareness, credibility, and have helped us impact a larger number of communities.
Each center has a designated Center Coordinator, who is an active PLT Facilitator that either hosts the annual workshop or helps organize it. If you are interested in loaning a Tree Trunk, attending a PLT workshop, or hosting a PLT training for your group at one of the SC PLT EE Centers, please contact your local Center Coordinator.
The SC PLT EE Center Tree Trunks are located at each of the seven SC PLT EE Centers. The Tree Trunks are available to loan by anyone who has gone through a Project Learning Tree PD training. These trunks are all identical and have materials to lead ten different PLT activities from the K – 8 Activity Guide. Please see the link below for a downloadable inventory of supplies and suggested activities.
Tree Trunks must be rented in their entirety, and individual activity supplies cannot be borrowed on their own. The Trunks can be loaned for up to two weeks and there is no charge to use them. If you are interested in borrowing a Tree Trunk, please fill out the Tree Trunk Request Form below and send it to your local Center Coordinator. The coordinator can answer any questions you have about this process.
